Today, my daughter received her bachelor’s degree, graduating summa cum laude! I was really surprised. She didn’t tell me. I took pictures, but they were all blurry. It is nice to have a digital camera, so one doesn’t have to wait to be disappointed! :-)
Anyway, we had a great time celebrating at one of our favorite restaurants. Now, we are home, and my daughter is beginning to put the artificial tree together. We’re a little late this year putting up the tree, but it wouldn’t be the same, unless my daughter took it out of its box and put the lights on—somewhere around 900! Afterward we put on some Christmas carols and decorate it together— my daughter and my wife and I, and anyone else who may be here. This year it is just the three of us. As usual, a Christmas video is on while the tree it being put together—hey fluffing up those branches and putting on 900 lights takes at least two hours. We take a tea break now and then, but the focus is on the tree and the Christmas video—this year it’s “While you were sleeping.” My daughter has a lot of the lines memorized! That way when I miss what someone said, she just tells me. We don’t have to bother with stopping the DVD and play back what I didn’t hear.
My wife and daughters have a lot of fun with my hearing lose. I can hear ok, but not as well as I used to. Usually when I miss something, I try to make sense of what I thought I heard. Sometimes what I reply can be pretty funny, but I am always the last to know! :-)
Anyway, it is Christmas time once again, and I am getting more and more into the mood. I decided that, beginning tomorrow, I’ll take a break from writing about the book of Acts and begin sharing things that concern the birth of Jesus and what that means to me. Some of it may be new to some folks, but I hope what I have to say helps anyone who reads to understand those times a little better and perhaps see the coming of our Lord and Savior in a manner that draws one to him. The season, after all, is supposed to be about him. Is it not?
In any case, I wish anyone who reads this a very merry Christmas, and God bless, and if you happen to be Jewish, Shalom, and happy Hanukkah! And, if you are of another persuasion, may God bless you where you are, and may you find reason to rejoice in the light he has given you.
