Below one will find a chart with approximate times of Jesus’ appearances to folks, after he rose from the dead. Obviously, seeking absolute accuracy is impossible. The scriptures simply are not so detailed that they would offer such precision, so some guesswork needs to take place in such an endeavor. Nevertheless, what appears below will agree with the scriptures. Some things that I have written will not be embraced by all, but that’s okay. I have endeavored to be as accurate as the scriptures would allow me to be. I haven’t knowingly assumed any doctrine of men, rather, interpreted what I have seen in the word of God and wrote what seemed good to me. I hope that even among those who disagree with me that one can understand why I have interpreted the scriptures in the manner in which he reads here.

Jesus’ Appearances After He Rose from the Dead |
|
|
Approximate Time |
Event |
| Late on the Sabbath (Saturday), just before sunset. | Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the sepulcher (Matthew 28:1). The Greek for “as it began to dawn” is G2020 and is the same word found in Luke 23:54 the Sabbath “drew on” – i.e. sunset. They came, perhaps to find out from the guards when Jesus’ body would be available for anointing. The stone sealed the tomb until the three days and nights were fulfilled (Matthew 27:62-66; cf. 12:40). |
| Perhaps, near sunrise on Sunday, while it was dark at the tomb. | When Jesus rose from the dead is not recorded. However, there was an earthquake, and an angel descended from heaven to roll away the stone from the sepulcher to reveal the empty tomb (Matthew 28:2-4). The guards saw an angel, not Jesus. |
| 4:30 to 5:00 A.M. | Mary Magdalene, Mary (mother of James) and Salome, probably with others from Bethany, arrived at the sepulcher in the deep dawn (Mark 16:2), while it was still dark at the tomb and found the stone rolled away and the tomb empty (John 20:1; cf. Luke 24:2-3). |
| 4:30 to 5:00 A.M. | Immediately, Mary Magdalene went to Peter and the disciple whom Jesus loved to tell them that someone had taken Jesus’ body away (John 20:2-10). |
| 5:30 to 6:00 A.M. | The group from Jerusalem, among whom was Joanna, who no doubt stayed in Herod’s palace with her husband Chuza (cf. Luke 8:3), reach the sepulcher, but probably Bethany’s women had already departed for Bethany. The Jerusalem group looked into the tomb and see two angels, who tell them Jesus is alive and had already risen. They were commanded to tell the disciples (Luke 24:4-9). |
| 5:30 to 6:00 A.M. | As the women were on their way, some of the guard that was placed at the tomb were already arriving in the city to tell the chief priests of the angel and Jesus’ missing body. The chief priests called an assembly of the Sanhedrin, and it was decided to bribe the guards. The guards agreed to say Jesus’ disciples stole the body, while they slept during the night (Matthew 28:11-15). |
| 5:30 to 6:00 A.M. | Peter and the disciple whom Jesus loved arrived at the tomb with Mary Magdalene and found the tomb empty just as Mary claimed, but they saw no one else. They left wondering what had occurred (John 20:3-10; cf. Luke 24:12). |
| Near 6:00 A.M. | Mary Magdalene looked into the tomb after Peter and the other disciple left and saw two angels (John 20:11-13). |
| Near 6:00 A.M. | Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene and told her to tell his disciples he had arisen (John 20:14-18). |
| Cir. 6:00 A.M. | The ceremony of the Wave Sheaf Offering occurred at the Temple, and Jesus ascended to the Father to have his sacrifice accepted (John 20:17; Matthew 28:9; cf. Judges 13:18-22). |
| Just after 6:00 A.M. | Jesus appeared to the women on their way to Jerusalem from the sepulcher and commanded them to tell his disciples to go to Galilee, and they will see him there (Matthew 28:9-10). |
| Near 6:30 A.M. | Joanna, Mary (the mother of James) and the group of women from Jerusalem told what they had seen to the Apostles and other disciples that were in the Upper Room (Luke 24:10). |
| Cir. 7:00 A.M.to 1:00 P.M. and 1:00 to 4:00 PM | The appearance to the two disciples on the way to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35), but Jesus wasn’t recognized until the beginning of the noon meal. Nevertheless, when they returned to Jerusalem neither would the disciples believe them (Mark 16:12-13). |
| Cir. 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. | Jesus appeared to the eleven, which included Judas (Luke 24:36-49; John 20:19-20), and others, sometime before sunset on the First Day of the Weeks (Sunday), the day of his Resurrection. |
| Sometime during the day of the resurrection. | Jesus appeared to Peter (1Corinthians 15:5). |
| James, Jesus’ brother (1 Corinthians 15:7), which may have occurred on the day Jesus rose from the dead, but probably it occurred later. | |
| 21st day of the first month. | The Twelve, including Thomas and Judas in the upper room eight days after his crucifixion, John 20:24-26; 1 Cor. 15:5 |
| Seven disciples at the Sea of Galilee, John 21:1-22, at which time Jesus reinstated Peter among his Apostles. | |
| At the commissioning of the eleven Apostles at the set meeting in Galilee. This appearance also included the 500 brethren, plus others who didn’t believe (Matt. 28:16-17; 1 Corinthians 15:6). | |
| All the apostles, Luke 24:50-51; Acts 1:4-9; 1 Corinthians 15:7 on the day Jesus ascended into heaven. | |
| Paul, 1 Cor. 15:8 (Acts 9) | |
