Due to the fact that modern scholarship has presumed that Daniel 11:36 to the end of the book represents a prophecy for the end of time, the Church has, falsely, believed that the fulfillment of the Seventy Weeks Prophecy in the ninth chapter of the Book of Daniel, particularly Daniel 11:36 to the end of the book, are mainly for our own future. If, indeed, this is false, then modern scholarship’s interpretation of Daniel 11:36 to the end of the book is false, as well. Absolutely nothing they claim about these verses can be used to add meaning to the rest of the book, if, indeed, those verses are for ancient times, and not our own. Therefore, if Daniel 2:44 is correct, and the Kingdom of God, which was set up in the days of the kings of the Roman Empire cannot be destroyed but lasts forever, then there is no “end of time” for mankind, as modern scholarship assumes. For centuries, hundreds of biblical scholars and leaders of the Church have predicted the Second Coming of Christ would occur in their near future. ALL of them—ALL of them have been proved wrong.

The fact is, there is no other doctrine that has been proved false as often as the doctrine of the future Second Coming of Christ. If, indeed, the Apostles were correct in their interpretation, namely that Jesus would return in THEIR expected lifetimes, then the Second Coming has already occurred, and must have been a spiritual rather than a physical event. So, the angel didn’t goof at all. Rather, it has been that many in the Church have greatly erred. Therefore, we need to reconsider the verses mentioned above.

The text begins in chapter 12 of the Book of Daniel with, “And at that time…” (Daniel 12:1). What time is this? According to my interpretation of Daniel 11:44-45, it is at the time of Jesus’ crucifixion. “At THAT time…” Michael would stand up… and your people shall be delivered, everyone that is found written in the book” (Daniel 12:1). Michael, as I’ve testified, previously, in several studies, is not an angelic being. He is the Archangel (Jude 1:9), but all that means is that he is the Lord of the angels, just as he is King of kings and Lord of lords with regard to men (1Timothy 6:15; Revelation 17:14; 19:16). In other words, the Messiah is the Lord of heaven (Archangel) as well as the Lord of earth (King of kings and Lord of lords). Michael is the Messiah, and, therefore, God.

“At THAT time…” vis-à-vis the time of the crucifixion (Daniel 11:44-45), there would be a “time of trouble,” such that would be unequaled in Israel’s history. Never before, not since she became a nation would there be a time like this. In Exodus the children of Israel entered into a covenant with God, and this very God with whom Moses spoke had come in the flesh (John 1:1, 14), and the people of the covenant REJECTED their Rock, their Lord and God, the Messiah, in favor of Caesar (John 19:15). The crucified one was the Angel who redeemed Jacob (Genesis 48:16), and that Angel is the same God with whom Abraham and Isaac walked (Genesis 48:15). This same Michael is the Angel of the Covenant (Malachi 3:1), and the Jews in union with the Empire of Rome rejected him and nailed his body to a cross (cp. Psalm 2:1-2). “At THAT time…” in the latter days (Deuteronomy 31:29), when their vine would be like that of Sodom and Gomorrah (Deuteronomy 32:32), the Jewish authorities, with the people they ruled, would reject their covenant with God, and they would crucify their Lord, their Rock, their Messiah. Nevertheless, while on the cross, Jesus asked the Father to forgive the very ones who crucified him (Luke 23:34). Therefore, since God always answered Jesus’ prayers (John 11:41-42), there would be a time, a time of grace, in which repentance could be made before judgment would be administered.

At the end of the grace period, judgment would be made between the righteous and the unrighteous, and the resurrection would occur. At that time, the dead would arise, some to everlasting life, but others to everlasting shame and contempt (Daniel 12:2).

However, during this grace period and before judgment would be administered, those who were wise would shine as the brightness of the sky, (Daniel 12:3; cp. 2Corinthians 3:7-11,18). This refers to the brightness of the Spirit within us. Just as Moses’ face shone physically, so the faces of those, who brought the Gospel to Israel in an effort to get them to repent, shone spiritually, not that others saw, but that others were moved and turned to God (cp. 2Corinthians 5:11-12; 19-20).

Nevertheless, this prophecy had to be sealed until the time of the end, or until the final week of the Seventy Weeks Prophecy. This would be the time of the end (Daniel 12:4). It would be “THAT time” when the Messiah would appear (Hebrews 1:3), and make a firm covenant with many (Daniel 9:27). “At THAT time” many would be going from one place to another, and knowledge would be increased, vis-à-vis spiritual knowledge via the Gospel of the New Covenant (cp. Jeremiah 31:31).

  1. Interesting Eddie. Any reason that the name Michael was used? BTW I don’t doubt your interpretation.

  2. Hi Dave, good to hear from you again; Lord bless you.

I believe Michael is Jesus, prior to his becoming man. I don’t believe Michael is a created angel. He is the Angel of the Lord and God manifest. I think that the similarity to the JW’s false doctrine that he is a created being keeps folks from seeing what the Bible is saying here.
