While this chart isn’t found in the Book of Ezra, it does place limitations of how we should understand the time-frame of the book. It comes from the Book of Nehemiah and offers an explanation as to why the two books were combined into one in early Jewish Biblical editions. The chart represents two generations of priest for both books. Ezra and Nehemiah end as the third generation of high priests begin, vis-à-vis Eliashib, representing the third generation, is the son of Joiakim, the son of Jeshua, the high priest who returned to Jerusalem with the first release decreed by Cyrus the Great.
