Failure, Shortsightedness and Sin

We must not ignore the idea behind mankind’s prime directive, namely, that he is, or should be, the image of God (Genesis 1:27). This is what’s behind the Lord’s reason for saving man by bringing him back to God after mankind had rebelled. The point is, God is sovereign! He gets to be God, and we don’t. In other words, we have rebelled and wanted to be the god of our own lives (Romans 1:28). Nevertheless, God, the real God, overruled our behavior and promised he would send a Savior to bring us back to himself (Genesis 3:15; cp. John 3:16).

Sometimes we get the idea that, simply because God rose up a helper for Jesus, vis-à-vis the Church, that the Lord works only through the Church to fulfill his will for mankind, but this isn’t true. If Jesus is King of the Earth, it stands to reason that he rules all the nations, as well, and that according to his will (Daniel 4:34-35). It makes no difference that the nations are unrighteous and in a state of rebellion; the Lord doesn’t need our righteousness to be King (Revelation 11:15, 18). Similarly, the Lord is the husband of the Church (Ephesians 5:22-27; 2Corinthians 11:2), and this remains true regardless of our faithfulness.

We need to remember that the Lord worked with imperfect folks like Noah, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and he worked through Israel to discipline the nations, and then through the nations to discipline Israel. God is Almighty, which means he is able to accomplish all he sets out to do, regardless of the cooperation of the nations, and regardless of the faithfulness of his helper, the Church. God will always be God, and we, the nations and/or the Church will never be able to change that fact of life.

One of the most godless doctrines believed by the nations and by many in the Church is Darwinism or the Theory of Evolution. I believe Darwinism has gone much further than even Charles Darwin suspected or even had hoped. Even from the grave, he has become the prince of the power of the air (Ephesians 2:2), which has led men to believe, we are evolving into something better and better as the ages come and go.[1] Passed off as science, but it is not science, Darwinism can never be Christianized. The whole idea begins with mankind in a subhuman form and ends in pointing to human perfection. How, then, are the scriptures correct that God created mankind, and why would mankind need a Savior in a world where he evolves into a better and better human being? If we are, indeed, becoming better and better, according to Darwin, we are doing so without the work of a Savior.

Keeping up with the times or being on the wrong side of history etc. has become slogans of the idol, men have labeled progress, which is strangely similar to Darwinism. Thus, even Christianity tends to fall into corruption in its wake, as the Church seeks to be relevant in modern society by preaching one’s ethic and theology must change with the calendar, something which can never point to Christ as King of the Earth; why should a king have to change to be relevant to his subjects? Nevertheless, human progress/evolution does have a very pantheistic worldview.

The point is, according to this study, if Jesus is King of the Earth, this doesn’t necessitate a righteous mankind or perfection in the Church. The prime directive (Genesis 1:27) necessitates man’s freedom of choice, which means we are at liberty to cooperate with God or not. However, our liberty or freewill in no way limits God’s almighty power or sovereignty. Thus, whether or not the Church, as a whole, is honoring God as his helper, vis-à-vis preaching the Gospel and making disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19-20) or whether or not the nations are shadowing Church ideas[2] by assisting the poor and the oppressed, or funding programs to heal the sick, or enabling its citizens to acquire a good education, neither points to or detracts from the truth that Jesus is King of the Earth.

The end of the matter is that God is at work both inside and outside the Church. He is at work with the Church through the Gospel, and at the same time he is at work in the nations “shaping them and their fortunes to serve his greater purposes.”[3] Jesus’ success as King over the Earth is not affected by the Church’s or the nations’ failures, shortsightedness or sins.

[1] It is beyond the purpose of this study to show the shortcomings of Darwinism from a Christian worldview. However, I have produced a series of studies on the Theory of Evolution, which I based upon a YouTube video entitled Exposing the Freemasonic-Pagan Roots of Evolution. The study also includes things based upon what I read on the Creation Ministries International website.

[2] If the nations shadow Church programs, it does not mean that the nations or any single nation is following Christ. There is no Christian nation. God didn’t call the nations; he called the Church.

[3] This study is based upon my interpretation of N.T. Wright’s Simply Jesus. While I use Dr. Wright’s book to form the chronology of my studies, my studies don’t always conclude in the manner Dr. Wright does. We are usually in agreement, in my opinion, but not always. One needs to read Dr. Wright’s book to be assured one knows his opinion.
