No doubt there is much that is missed that could be gleaned out of the four Gospel narratives for the final week of Jesus’ life on earth. Truly, no matter how meticulous we are in our studies we miss something. Paul even tells us that the best we can do today is to know in part (1Corinthians 13:9, 12). I will try my best to add to our partial knowledge, but I feel so inadequate, as I face what Jesus said and did during this final week of his life on earth.
Jesus seems to simply thrust himself in plain view for this week, almost daring anyone to find fault with him. With a price on his head he comes to the top of Mount Olivet and looks over Jerusalem before he enters the city in full view of all his enemies. All their plans to seize him are turned upside down. Their power seems impotent before him, until he allows their desire to occur. Once his enemies have him in their grasp, they think they are able to do as they wish, but in the end Jesus is still calling the shots. Truly, the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and his weakness is more powerful than all who come against him (cf. 1Corinthians 1:25).
