Both science and religion have been self-proclaimed enemies for quite sometime. It seems that both strive to become the undisputed CEO of knowledge, or the dictator of truth for mankind. I believe the problem of their rivalry has more to do with sophomoric competition than it does with the reality of what we might refer to as the beginning. For example, both agree that everything came into existence from nothing. Religion says: ex nihilo, while science says:
“In the realm of the universe, nothing really means nothing. Not only matter and energy would disappear, but also space and time. However, physicists theorize that from the state of nothingness, the universe began in a gigantic explosion about 16.5 billion years ago. This theory of the origin of the universe is called the Big Bang Theory. The Big Bang Theory does not explain how the universe began. The theory only explains how the existing universe could have developed.” (emphasis mine) — HBJ; General Science, 1989, page 362.
Both religion and science hang their hats on illogical statements. How is it possible that anything could come from nothing? Is anything like this provable in any of our educational institutions, religious or secular? The universe contains unimaginable intelligence; yet both science and religion claim this intelligence (largely yet undiscovered) came out of nowhere and out of nothing. It is more believable that Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Yale, and Princeton Universities simply appeared out of nowhere and out of nothing than to believe our universe (matter, space and time) came into existence out of nothing, ex nihilo!
The Bible makes no such claim! We are told in the Book of Hebrews that the Lord created all that we are able to see and know in our universe out of something that isn’t physical. Note: “By faith we understand that time was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are invisible” (Hebrews 11:3). The intelligence that we understand is contained in the structure and order of our universe, including the life forms that we find on Earth, comes from Intelligence, the all-knowing God who put it there. All things physical was created from something we cannot see or detect, which I believe is God himself. He put something of himself into creating our physical universe. Provable? No, but a lot more logical than what science and traditional religion have passed off as reality.
