Abortion

Abortion

Perhaps no other subject has defined our times more than the issue of abortion. Does a woman really have the right to choose to bear the child in her womb or abort it? Is there such a thing as having power over one’s body. The Church, especially the evangelical church has been adamant about this subject and considers abortion, murder. They have even gone to the extreme of seeking to polarize the political arena against abortion and have chosen to ignore the immoral behavior of national leaders in exchange for legislation against abortion and conservative appointments to our highest court who agree that abortion is murder. So, whether or not their theology is correct, they have become dangerously close to repeating Inquisition-like behavior in our times. In my opinion the union of church and state is never a good thing. I don’t believe the power that put Jesus to death could ever be used to do the work Jesus would do. Therefore, I cannot support the means the evangelical community has chosen to establish its goals. As far as I am concerned, if abortion needs to be abolished, the only way to do that is to preach the Gospel to folks in need and act it out in our daily lives.

Nevertheless, is abortion murder? Is the life inside the woman’s womb a person? Does the woman really have power or authority over her own body, and does she really have the right to abort an unwanted child living in her womb?
