The Book of Genesis

It was not without a degree of fear that I took on the labor of studying the Book of Genesis. It is such a large book, fifty chapters! Only the Psalms (150 chapters), and the prophets Isaiah (66 chapters) and Jeremiah (52 chapters) are larger. Nevertheless, I was determined to study this book, perhaps because I had already studied the Book of Job, and it contained only eight chapters less than that of the Genesis record. In any event, I was intrigued with the idea of studying this book of beginnings; everything began here: creation, rebellion, war, slavery, tyranny, empires etc. Nothing we know today is really all that new. Whatever we experience today has its source in the records of the Book of Genesis.

I found this study to be quite fruitful. I came to understand mysteries that had me wondering prior to this study. For example, in a universe that is billions of light years in diameter, how could one conclude it is only 6000 years old (or a reasonable facsimile)? The answer is quite simple and reasonable in a religious context, at least as reasonable as the Big Bang Theory in a naturalistic context, and as far as I am able to understand, much more logical.

Anyway, below you will find my study in six parts. I hope the reader finds these studies as enjoyable as it was for me to write them. Lord bless all who come here to understand how it all began.

  1. Creation to the Flood                                  (Genesis 1 to 8)           35 studies
  2. The Flood to Abraham                                (Genesis 9 to 12)         10 studies
  3. Abraham to Isaac                                        (Genesis 13 to 24)       53 studies
  4. Isaac to the Blessing of Jacob                    (Genesis 25 to 28)       17 studies
  5. The Blessing of Jacob to Joseph                (Genesis 29 to 36)       44 studies
  6. Joseph to the End of Genesis                     (Genesis 37 to 50)       63 studies
