Joseph to the End of the Book of Genesis

from Google Images

“These are the generations of Jacob…” and the account begins with Joseph (Genesis 37:2). The record is about what became of Jacob’s family, his descendants or generations. Over a century ago, the Lord told Abraham that his descendants would serve another nation for 400 years, and in the fourth generation, the Lord would visit them, bring them into the Promised Land and judge that nation that afflicted them (Genesis 15:13-16). In this, the final record of the Book of Genesis, its written history testifies how Israel came to be in the land of Egypt. It documents their origins under the Patriarch, Jacob, once they left the Promised Land to sojourn in a foreign land. These things would be important to them as they left Egypt under Moses (Exodus 13:3).

We begin, first, with how Joseph ended up in Egypt, and after a brief look at Judah’s marriage to Tamar, the record continues with how Joseph attained fame and eventually brought his family: Jacob, his father, and his brethren, their wives and children, to live Egypt.

May the Lord richly bless all who come here to study his word. Be aware, however, that these are my studies, written out as clearly as I am able to make them. I’ve been wrong before, so be careful not only of what you read (Mark 4:24) but also of how you read what you find here, and that goes for anything you find on my website (Luke 8:18).
