Dr. N.T. Wright is my favorite Biblical scholar. I’ve read some of his books and listened to numerous YouTube videos wherein he was the featured speaker. I love to listen to or read about his point of view of a subject taught in God’s word, the Bible. We do have our differences, however, and this does play a part in how I approach this study of his book, Simply Jesus.
I need to inform anyone who decides to read my study of Simply Jesus that I use the book as a guide into the study. I usually use the chapter headings of the book, as well as the headings within each chapter, for the titles of each of my studies. Not always, but sometimes I draw a different conclusion from Dr. Wright, even using the same scriptures, which he uses to illuminate an idea of his choice. These studies are not simply an interpretation of Dr. Wright’s book, because sometimes I point to a different conclusion. Therefore, I don’t believe Dr. Wright would agree with everything I put down in my studies. Our differences aren’t always opposing points of view (such as: “Can one lose one’s salvation?” yes or no); sometimes it’s just a different conclusion about a matter.
Therefore, the reader needs to keep in mind that these are my studies. Indeed, I quote Dr. Wright; sometimes I agree with Dr. Wright, but at times I also draw a different conclusion than what is in his book. So, beware of what I have said, especially if you’ve come here to read an interpretation or a summary of Dr. Wright’s book.
